Monumental complex of the Sant Feliu monastery. The Benedictine monastery that houses the main headquarters of the Museum already represents a must-see in itself. Its origins date back to the mid-10th century, it is based on the remains of a Roman villa and combines three architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque, with clear exponents of each of these styles, such as the Porta Ferrada from the Romanesque period, the three Gothic apses with pointed arches and decorated vaults or the Sant Benet arch, which gives way to the large baroque building.
Archaeological background. Archaeological sites of the most varied chronology, from the Paleolithic to the medieval period.
The monastery and the town. This exhibition shows how the fortified monastery of Guíxols, a center of culture but also of feudal control, gave rise to the town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, which would grow under its protection and which, upon having its own political organization, would try to get rid of it. of the feudal pretensions of the monastery.
The rural doctor. Health, long ago. This space dedicated to the rural doctor deserves special mention. An exhibition of objects and sanitary utensils that transports the visitor to the sanitary conditions of times past. Thus we discovered how, at that time, the doctor was a multi-specialist and fought with his knowledge against the lack of resources and how strong bonds were created between the doctor and his patients, in an environment of isolated populations.
Complementary exhibition. Maritime rescue section
Can you imagine what a maritime rescue station was like at the end of the 19th century?
