Museum of the Mediterranean – TORROELLA DE MONTGRÍ

Welcome to the Museum of the Mediterranean.

A participatory experience for adults and children that invites us to smell the aromas of the Mediterranean, listen to its sounds and music, touch history and enjoy a panoramic audiovisual that brings us closer to today's Mediterranean reality. Go ahead! The museum opens the doors to discover and get to know the human space of the Mediterranean, starting from the territory of the Montgrí massif, the Baix Ter plain and the Medes Islands.

What to see?

Permanent exhibition

The Museum proposes a walk through the Mediterranean through a circuit of thematic rooms that show us the landscape and nature of the Mediterranean and, also, the testimony of its cultural experiences, with music as a link between peoples.

Scope 1. The reception space. The visitor begins immersion in the territory through a large map of the Mediterranean complemented with quotes that invite reflection.

Scope 2. An open territory, in contact with different peoples. The sounds of the sea, the wind, the river... In this space the landscapes of Montgrí, Baix Ter and the Medes Islands are presented. The visitor captures the sounds of nature and how those of humans are added to them, ending up giving way to a sample of the integration of the peoples that have made up the current Mediterranean.

Area 3. Music as a pretext for communication. A space dedicated to the territory's own music, where the sardana plays a predominant role and where you can interact to play instruments and learn to identify them.

Area 4. Heirs of a Mediterranean culture. On a large map of the territory you can see and play various Mediterranean instruments and at the same time observe the similarities between them.

Area 5. The Mediterranean reality today. Open space designed for reflection, where an audiovisual shows the multifaceted Mediterranean, wars, smiles, fears, hope...
