newyorkstandardsquartetaljazzOn March 21, two quarters from midnight, at the Auditori Pau Casals del Vendrell, part of the “Jazz at the Auditori” cycle, the group New York Standards Quartet will perform, which is formatted Tim Armacost, sax; David Berkman, piano; Yosuke Inoue, contrabiax, and Gene Jackson, drums.

New York Standards Quartet will begin its journey in 2006 under the leadership of the prestigious New York saxophonist Tim Armacost. To complete its project, Armacost will involve some of the most interesting music on the East Coast scene. Gene Jackson, connected with his many works to the great names of jazz, and particularly interested in his collaboration with Herbie Hanckok, will be great at taking care of the drums. The pianist David Berkman and the double bassist Yosuke Inoue are responsible for completing a quartet that has achieved the recognition of the international public.

The New York Standards Quartet group is formed by four musicians who have worked together on numerous occasions, with the result being a great rapport and an extraordinary ability to walk together with intense musicality and tremendous strength and expressiveness. The second contribution is based on reviewing, in the form of modernity, some of the standards that have given shape to the great repertoires of jazz, contributing to the very nuances of what is desprèn the extraordinary degree of personality of the group.

Tim Armacost has had an interesting solo career, with several recorded albums alongside music with Ray Drummond, Bruce Barth and Billy Hart for the record Double Time. The discography of pianist David Berkman for the Palmetto company is the best evidence of a pianist of great technique and language, innovative and respectful of the most modern tradition of jazz pianistism. Gene Jackson and Yosuke Inoue form a solid rhythm section perfectly suited to the group's aesthetics.

After being named State Units tours in Japan, New York Standards Quartet has just released their first album on the American label TMA Records. This work has garnered the best reviews and was an incredible example of the band's quality.
