The Mossos d'Esquadra of the Camp de Tarragona police region have made more than 1.800 arrests since their full deployment on November 1, as stated today during the celebration of the Day of the Squads of this region in Coma-ruga.

The chief mayor of the area, Jaume Giné, pointed out that the majority of criminal acts detected are against property, such as robberies with force or vehicle theft, "as also happens in Catalonia or Spain," he stated.

Giné highlighted that the beginning of the deployment has gone "very well", since it has entered the social fabric and in this way, he said, a better response can be given to the citizen "by involving everyone, since security is a cross-cutting issue, not just the police.

There are 1.237 police officers working in Camp de Tarragona who have responded to 24.926 emergency calls and have carried out, in the first five months of deployment, nearly 48.000 services and more than 2.400 contacts with the community.

So far in 2009, the local Investigation units have arrested 250 people, and the regional Investigation area has arrested 23 people and charged 16 more.

During 2008, the Mossos de Trafico filed some 43.000 complaints, of which more than 13.000 were for speeding, 3.800 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 6.200 for doing so without wearing a seat belt.

The mayor of El Vendrell, Benet Jané, stated that the presence of the Mossos has been noted with a slight decrease in crime. For her part, the Interior delegate in Tarragona, Hortensia Grau, announced that it is planned to increase the staff of the Camp de Tarragona soon.
