TweetCasa Batllo

House on Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona whose exterior was designed by the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí

La Casa Batllo It is one of the modernist style models for which Gaudí is famous. There are no straight lines anywhere and the building is almost completely covered in mosaics. Its appearance comes from a comprehensive remodeling of a building that was previously and had been the work of Emilio Sala Cortés. Gaudí carried out the project at a time of artistic fullness, in what is known as the naturalist stage in the first decade of the XNUMXth century. He gets this name due to his inspiration in the forms of nature. In 1903 the building was acquired by the textile sector businessman Josep Batlló married to a woman from the Godó family (publishers of La Vanguardia). The couple lived on the main floor of the house. Batlló entrusted the project to Gaudí and in 1912 they received the building permit to carry out the restoration project.
