Learn about the history of comma-ruga, an old area of marshes with mineral water springs that at the beginning of the century gave rise to a couple of spas that were the first tourist center of El Vendrell.
On one of those beaches, in Sant Salvador, the cellist Pau Casals (1.876-1.973) spent his vacations. His summer home has been converted into a museum that brings together his personal belongings and also works of art donated by friends of the musician.
El Vendrell is a town of medieval origin that has undergone notable development in recent centuries. Of its architectural ensemble, the Church of Sant Salvador (XNUMXth century) stands out, with a slender bell tower and a Baroque organ with which Pau Casals began in music, and Can Guimerà? with beautiful sgraffito, the summer residence of the sculptor Apel-les Fenosa, as well as the modern auditorium, a recent work by Jordi Bonet, where the Casals Festivals are held every summer.
In El Vendrell the traveler can savor an original dish, the xat?, escarole salad with esqueixat (crumbed) cod, tuna, anchovy, olives, seasoned with a sauce of ?oras and roasted nuts, a relative of the romesco, and accompany it with the excellent wines of the region, the Penedés, where some of the best whites of the peninsula are produced.
From El Vendrell you can visit places like Sant Jaume dels Domenys or L'Arboç, but if the little ones in the family are not fond of monuments, the visitor can go to Albinyana, where there is a reserve of exotic animals in freedom and if they feel like To walk, the best thing is to go up to the Montmell mountain range, a magnificent viewpoint to the east of the Costa Dorada to go down towards the Sant Marc valley, with fresh patches and leafy vegetation.
Near Comarruga, you can also visit the tourist towns for the Costa Dorada, Torredembarra and Altafulla, which have notable castles and other historical buildings of great interest, history in its purest form.
