The municipality of Blanes is located at the southern end of the province of Girona, next to the mouth of the river Tordera, and is part of the region of La Selva. The municipal term has a total surface of 1.784 hectares and about 30.000 inhabitants. It is rugged to its northern and eastern variants, and flatter to the west, especially in the area next to the Tordera. It is one of the reference sites in tourism in Girona.

S'Abanell – the longest beach on the Costa Brava
S'Abanell extends to the south of Plaça Del Països Catalans, the roundabout near Sa Palomera, the rocky promontory that marks the official start of the Costa Brava.
This wide beach (40-60 meters) consists of 3.1 kilometers of clean, somewhat coarse, but comfortable sand. It extends beyond the El Pins and S'Abanell districts, where most of the city's 40 hotels are located. Further south it passes through some of the Blanes campsites.
The beach ends at the mouth of the Tordera, a dry river. This remote part, which can also be reached by taking Avinguda De La Vila De Madrid, is the nude beach of Blanes. Near the Avinguda del Mediterrani street there are facilities for the disabled.
